ABOUT CAT SKIING IN UTAH

For the best cat skiing in Utah, enthusiasts of this sport head to Whisper Ridge in Paradise. Nestled in the Wasatch Mountains in Northern Utah, the resort is said to be the largest powder backcountry ski resort in the world. It boasts over 70,000 private acres of skiable terrain and gets more than 500 inches of fresh powder snow each year.

Paradise itself is a small town of 900 people that is part of the Logan Metropolitan area. It welcomes thousands of tourists from across the country and around the world each year to Whisper Ridge. This backcountry cat skiing resort is famous for having some of the best ski lines in the U.S. Skiers who come here average at least 10 runs and 12,000 verticals per day.

Cat skiers in particular enjoy coming to Paradise because they do not have to wait in lines at the ski resort, do not encounter tracked powder, and avoid tolerating cold lifts to the top of runs. The packages for cat skiing here start at around $550 per person per day.

In fact, the price for a single day of cat skiing includes rides in the snow cats to the mountain’s summit as well as breakfast and lunch. Two days and one night of cat skiing averages around $1500 person and comes with an all-inclusive yurt.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS ABOUT CAT SKIING IN UTAH

Three days and two nights of cat skiing, with an all-inclusive yurt for one person, costs around $2,400. A private cat skiing party for up to 14 people costs less than $6,000 and comes with breakfast and lunch.

All packages include access to experienced safety guides who are certified in AVY II and WFR. Each ski party is paired with at least one safety guide. This pairing is necessary to keep the focus on having fun and enjoying the cat skiing adventure without worrying about one’s safety while out on the backcountry runs.

Cat skiing excursions start early at Whisper Mountain, typically lasting all day. Guides will take skiers back to the resort when cat skiers get tired or when the sun starts to set and prevents skiers from seeing clearly on the runs. Before they embark, however, every cat skier is given a brief overview of safety instructions to prevent injuries while out in the backcountry of the mountain.

Also, for their own safety, cat skiers are encouraged to bring along gear that will not otherwise be provided by the resort. This gear includes ski goggles, ski pants, a helmet, beacons, gloves, and ski boots. Skiers are encouraged to dress in layers to stay warm while out on the runs.

To travel to Paradise, international and domestic tourists alike can fly by major airlines directly into the Salt Lake City International Airport. Salt Lake is 79 miles to the south of Paradise and Whisper Mountain.

Tourists have the option of booking a flight on a smaller airline like Gem Air or Ameriflights and landing at Logan Municipal Airport, which is 27 minutes or approximately 16 miles to the north of Paradise. Logan Municipal Airport serves private and charter flights.
