ABOUT CAT SKIING IN BRITISH COLUMBIA
Cat skiing is one of the most popular outdoor activities in British Columbia. To enjoy this sport to the fullest, cat skiers head to Nelson, home to the Meadow Mountain cat skiing lodge.
Nelson is a small ski resort town close to the Canada-U.S. border. Nestled in the Selkirk Mountains along Kootenay Lake, Nelson is famous for its eclectic small town vibe as well as it numerous cafes, coffee houses, art galleries, and restaurants.
Accessible only by snowcat, cat skiers are encouraged to show up to the lodge the day before their scheduled cat skiing excursions. Guests of the lodge are instructed to meet at Meadow Creek at 4:00 p.m. the day of their arrival. They are then taken in two groups of no more than 12 people to the lodge where they check in with their luggage, at the 4,200 feet mark in the Selkirk Mountains.
Nelson receives more than 600 inches of fresh powder snow each year with the bulk of that snow falling at the rate of 20+ inches during December and January. This amount of powder snow particularly benefits the Meadow Mountain cat skiing resort, which welcomes thousands of international and domestic skiers each year.

Cat skiing gets started each day during the season at 8:30 in the morning and continues until 4:00 that afternoon. All guests of the lodge are given a brief rundown of safety practices before being taken by snowcat to the top of the runs.
Skiers and guides break for lunch, consisting of homemade sandwiches, fresh fruits and vegetables, and a home baked dessert.
